An expert on human trafficking, Sister Shirley Fineran, O.S.F., of Sioux City, will speak Sunday, June 26, at 6:30 pm at the Paton-Churdan auditorium.
Sister Shirley is the founder and president of Lila Mae’s House, a trauma-informed residential home for adult women survivors of domestic trafficking. She is a retired associate professor of sociology at Briar Cliff University and an advocate for immigration reform and educating others about human trafficking.
During her program she will share sex trafficking information for parents, grandparents, educators and potential victims. She will talk about the various ways young people are recruited into sex trafficking, indicators of vulnerability and exploitation, and how to safely respond to possible victimization of children and youth, whether they are attending school, while under the control of a trafficker, or being transported on a circuit through the Midwest and beyond.
